SDL with Java and Eclipse

I don't know who all looks at this section, but here goes anyway.

I'd like to try to use Java to write some simple games, mainly for my own education and satisfaction. After doing a little research, I came across SDL. It looks like it's pretty powerful and would at least let me throw some sprites up on the screen.

Unfortunately, I have little knowledge about how Java "builds" its source code, and the instructions for implementing SDL had a lot of stuff about makefiles and compiling and etc. Would someone please help me get this working or suggest a better graphics library for Java?

Prof. Taylor, if you are reading this, I don't expect you to waste your time figuring this out. Just thought someone might know offhand.
